Volar en Globo · San Martin de las Piramides (Francisco Villa 85)

Volar en Globo, at the port

Volar en Globo runs a short morning from its port in San Martin de las Piramides: coffee, a sunrise flight, a toast on landing and a certificate, with transport and breakfast as an add-on. Before booking, read the safety section: news reports say AFAC suspended and sealed the company in March 2026.

Volar en Globo Balloon Flight

About this experience

Two options: the flight on its own (the $137 from-price) and Transportation CDMX + Breakfast, which costs more. Both include a coffee break before the flight, balloon travel insurance, a toast on landing, a personalised certificate, and a banner unrolled at take-off for birthdays and anniversaries. The zone ticket is not included (210 MXN for foreign visitors in 2026). Above 100 kg you pay 40 MXN per extra kilo. The port is at Francisco Villa 85: look for a security booth and a blue gate. The listing asks you to confirm your booking by phone with the operator.

The safety record needs stating plainly. In May 2025, state inspectors suspended 9 of 18 balloon companies at Teotihuacan for paperwork, and SDP Noticias lists Volar en Globo among them. On 29 March 2026, an AFAC inspection of the balloon ports ended with Volar en Globo, Sky Balloons and Nuevo Ciclo suspended and sealed; the reasons were not made public (Infobae, adn40). We found no public report of the suspension being lifted, and the listing was still on sale on Viator in October 2026. Ask for the current AFAC permit before you fly.

Reviews are mixed, which is why the rating sits at 4.5. Recent guests in 2026 loved getting close to the Pyramid of the Sun. Older complaints, from 2022 and 2023, describe instructions given only in Spanish, a crowded basket, a "private" flight shared with 10 others, and a driver who skipped the pyramids. Guests also say the flight lasts about 30 minutes.

  • Coffee break, toast on landing and a personalised certificate

What guests say

★★★★★

Everything went smooth, the scenery was out of this world, you get so close to the Sol pyramid that you might want to cry out of emotions! Our pilot was so reassuring and fun! 30 minutes were more than enough!

Fantastic experience, very friendly staff, thought I was going to be nervous but didn't feel it at all. It was a bit foggy so we had to wait an extra half an hour before going up.

We really liked that then they took us to the pyramids and waited for us and left us at the point of CDMX that we needed, even if it was not the pickup.

Valeria_J · Oct 2025
★★★★★

We were welcomed with coffee and warming stations when we arrived (it was cold outside). [...] Our whole family was able to enjoy the post-flight toast, and the kids (11-16) thought that was so special.

Tips before you book

  • Ask for the AFAC operating permit and the balloon's registration before you pay, and check them against AFAC's register. Free cancellation up to 24 hours gives you room.
  • Call or message the number on your booking to confirm, as the listing asks. Guests who skipped this had trouble finding their breakfast and ride.
  • If you book transport, confirm in writing that it includes the pyramids and the drop-off you want.
  • Book your ride back to the city in advance. Ride-hail cars are hard to find in San Martin after the flights.

Frequently asked questions

Was Volar en Globo suspended?

News reports say AFAC suspended and sealed Volar en Globo, Sky Balloons and Nuevo Ciclo after an inspection on 29 March 2026, without giving reasons (Infobae). The company was also on a list of 9 operators suspended for paperwork in May 2025 (SDP Noticias). We found no report of the suspension being lifted. Ask the operator for its current AFAC permit.

What does the $137 price include?

The flight, a coffee break, insurance, a toast on landing, a personalised certificate and a celebration banner if you want one. Transport and breakfast come with the more expensive option.

Why is Volar en Globo rated lower than other flights?

Its 4.5 rating on 82 reviews includes older complaints about Spanish-only instructions, crowded baskets and transport mix-ups. Recent 2026 reviews are positive about the flight itself.

How do I check a balloon operator's permit?

Ask for the AFAC operating permit and the registration on the balloon, then compare them with AFAC's register of balloons. Our post on balloon safety in 2026 explains each step.
