Teotihuacan Adventures · San Martin de las Piramides

Sunrise flight, cave breakfast and the ruins

A van from the Angel of Independence, a shared sunrise flight over the Teotihuacan valley, breakfast in a cave restaurant and free time among the pyramids. It is the most reviewed balloon listing here, and the day runs like clockwork for most guests.

Balloon Flight, Cave Breakfast & Pyramids

About this experience

Teotihuacan Adventures sells two options on this listing: Balloon flight only and All-inclusive balloon flight. The $149 from-price is the flight-only one, where you get yourself to the balloon port in San Martin de las Piramides before dawn. The van from the Angel of Independence, the cave breakfast, the craft-shop stop and the free time in the archaeological zone come with the all-inclusive option, at a higher price you see when you pick a date.

On the all-inclusive day, guests report a pickup between 4:00 and 4:40 a.m., coffee and bread at the operator's base, a weigh-in, then the launch field. One guest timed about 30 minutes in the air. The baskets are big: a flagship guest counted "more than 20 people" split into small sections of 4 or 5. After landing there's a toast, breakfast at a cave restaurant (chilaquiles or omelettes, vegetarian and vegan on request), a mezcal and obsidian demonstration at Tlalocan, and about an hour and a half on your own among the pyramids. Most groups are back on Reforma around 1 or 1:30 p.m.

Three caveats. The pyramid entry ticket is not included (210 MXN for foreign visitors in 2026; the listing still says "14 USD"). There's no guide inside the zone. And the Tlalocan stop is a shop with a tasting attached: some guests enjoy it, others call it a sales pitch. If the flight is all you care about, an Al Sol flight-only booking skips the rest.

  • The most reviewed balloon listing at Teotihuacan: 2,669 reviews, rated 4.9
  • Van from the Angel of Independence on the all-inclusive option
  • Breakfast in a cave restaurant after the flight
  • About an hour and a half of free time in the archaeological zone
  • Group capped at 16 travellers on the listing

How the day runs

  1. 4:00 to 4:40 a.m.Pickup on Reforma

The van collects you at the Angel of Independence (all-inclusive option). Guests got a pickup window by message a day or two before.

  2. About 1 hBase and weigh-in

Coffee, muffins or cookies, a short briefing and the scales. Bags go in a locker or the van: guests say nothing comes into the basket, even a small purse.

  3. Around sunriseThe flight

A shared basket split into sections of 4 or 5. The wind decides whether you pass over the Pyramid of the Sun or beside it. A toast follows the landing.

  4. About 30 minCave breakfast

Breakfast at a cave restaurant, sometimes with a short dance performance. Tip the servers in cash; that's separate.

  5. 30 min to 1 hTlalocan tasting and shop

Agave, obsidian, a pulque or mezcal tasting, then the shop.

  6. About 1.5 hFree time in the ruins

On your own in the zone, with no guide, then the drive back. Most guests are on Reforma by 1 to 1:30 p.m.

What guests say

★★★★★

This was both my first time as well as my boyfriend's on a hot air balloon and this experience exceeded my expectations. [...] Watching the sunrise and all the other hot air balloons in the sky with the pyramids is unreal.

We were picked up at 4:00 am by Victor, who was our driver. He was great at communicating and keeping us informed of where we were going and what to expect. [...] The air ballon ride was a blast the views are amazing.

★★★★★

The itinerary was clearly listed on the descriptions and we knew what to expect. Everything ran on time and promptly. This was advertised as no-tip and it's completely optional if you want to tip any of the guides or service crew [...]

Tips before you book

  • Pick the all-inclusive option if you need the van: the $149 from-price is the flight-only option, and the pickup is not part of it.
  • Carry about 210 MXN in cash per foreign adult for the zone ticket, plus small notes for the cave restaurant staff.
  • Dress in layers. It's near freezing at the launch field before dawn, warm under the burner, and hot in the ruins by 11 a.m.
  • One guest found nuts in the pre-flight muffins. Mention allergies when you book.
  • The staged photos and drone clips are sold after landing. Nobody has to buy them, though one guest felt the photo pitch was pushy.

Frequently asked questions

What does the $149 Teotihuacan Adventures price include?

The from-price is the Balloon flight only option: the shared flight, with you making your own way to the balloon port. Pickup from the Angel of Independence, breakfast in a cave, the Tlalocan stop and the free time in the ruins come with the all-inclusive option, which costs more. The entry ticket is extra on both.

What time is pickup in Mexico City?

Between about 4:00 and 4:40 a.m. at the Angel of Independence, according to guests. The operator sends the exact window by message a day or two before. One guest in February waited until 5:35 with no update, so keep your phone on.

Do you fly over the pyramids?

Sometimes. No rule stops balloons crossing the zone, and the wind sets the route. One guest wrote that their flight circled the Pyramid of the Sun; others pass at a distance. Our guide on flying over the pyramids explains why nobody can promise it.

Can you climb the pyramids afterwards?

No. The Pyramid of the Sun has been closed to climbing since 2020, and the Pyramid of the Moon has been closed until further notice since the shooting of 20 April 2026 (INAH bulletin 166). You walk the Avenue of the Dead and the plazas, and pass metal detectors at the entrance.
